Consistent with the overall goal to focus on leading edge ideas and advances in the field of regenerative medicine, the Stem Cells and Cell Therapies section will endeavour to publish studies into novel approaches or with provocative implications in both the translational and basic science of regenerative medicine.
Areas of interest will include:
(1) generation of regenerative cell populations from pluripotent stem cells or other unconventional sources outside of the relevant endogenous tissue;
(2) characterization of endogenous regenerative cell types;
(3) ex vivo expansion of regenerative cell populations;
(4) translational studies using GMP/GLP protocols;
(5) clinical studies of cell therapies in humans;
(6) methodologies of host conditioning that enable successful transplantation;
(7) studies involving genetic correction of regenerative populations from individuals with degenerative genetic diseases or animal models for these;
(8) genes and pathways involved in self-renewal of somatic stem cell populations;
(9) manipulation of endogenous pathways that regulate regenerative potential of tissues;
(10) effects of aging on the endogenous regenerative potential of tissues, and pathways whose manipulation mitigates aging-related decline in endogenous regenerative potential; and other studies of relevance to the cellular and biological aspects of regenerative medicine.
